Today was a sort of surprise snow day. The buses were already on their runs when first a delay and then a school closing enacted. Luckily, I had gotten a call from Gus’s bus driver to tell me that the roads were bad. I decided then to keep both kids home despite whatever the schools decided. Since [...] A local resident We all made it back from our trip safe and sound. All things considered, the trip was a successful one. No one was lost or hurt (one close call at the aquarium), there were no major meltdowns, and in general it was a pleasant time. That being said, I don’t think I relaxed [...] Yup, I played hooky yesterday. Granted, I only have to answer to myself when nothing gets done around here, but I can be quite a pain to work for. At any rate, I’m glad I did take the day because today has already been non-stop. But I’m taking a short break to show the Universe some [...] Gus’s class had a field trip today. The nice thing was that the orchard we went to was very close to us. So he didn’t have to go to school – I took him straight there. When we first got there, it was rough going. He had his agenda in mind and was very upset/impatient that he [...] Good morning, reader! I am aware that today is Friday, but I ran into a few technical difficulties yesterday that took up the bulk of the day, so I never got to sit down and post. However, had I posted, this is what I was thankful for yesterday (and still am today): 1. I am thankful that [...] Twice a week, Gus comes home with math drills to do – a sheet of math problems that should be fairly quick and simple, designed to practice computation skills. I understand the rationale for doing them – the math facts that he’s practicing should eventually become second nature so he doesn’t have to spend a lot [...] There has been a lot of talk about how to protect against swine flu and all manner of nasty viruses this fall. I’ve lost count of how many notices and reminders we’ve gotten from school. My daughter is great about mouth covering and hand washing, but Gus has trouble with those mundane tasks. It becomes a cyclone of alarm clocks, homework, meetings, extracurricular activities….Then Friday rolls around and it still doesn’t stop.
